Each year students across the country participate in a competition for recognition and scholarships through the National Merit Scholarship Program. Students qualify for the program through taking the PSAT, and meeting program entry requirements.
From the over 1.6 million entrants, around 50,000 students with the highest selection index scores qualify for recognition as either a Commended student or Semifinalist.
Sometime in February, finalists will be chosen from the group of Semifinalists, and then they may be chosen later in the year for one of three types of scholarships.
This year LHS has seven students that have been recognized as Semifinalists. They are Claire Franz, Andrew Komitor, Delaney Koontz, Abraham Lamontagne, Jack leonard, Hannah Reese, and Kyra Yehle. We also get to honor 15 Commended Students.
